Description
“Tiger Tail: orange creamsicle and home made licquorice” is a single print run zine by Phillip Lý featuring photos and illustrations of the creator’s time working at an ice cream parlour and details their negative experiences with customers. It features photos taken of the creator while at work and posted on social media without permission. It describes the often dehumanizing nature of customer service work and comments on people's willingness to take photos of strangers in public. This exhibit is the result of my investigation to find out more information about the work, which required speaking with the creator and following up with the two repositories it has been held in. Part of the goal of this exhibit was to find out as much information about the work as possible without going to measure or examine the physical copy. I wanted to test how much I could find online, and how accurate this information was according to the creator.
The single copy of the zine is not scanned or available anywhere digitally, but is available for in-person viewing through the Fisher Rare Book Library, who purchased the work in 2023 from Art Metropole, an artist centre in Toronto. This exhibit reflects the difficulty of finding information related to the zine's creation and contents. An initial text conversation with the creator is the only way I was able to find a stable link to the LibrarySearch Page, which also presented inaccurate information about the page length and genre of the work. I discovered from the creator that the book itself was bound with a cover by staff at Art Metropole, making them unnamed contributors to the final work.

A short text conversation with the creator of the "Tiger Tail" zine back in October of 2025. I had heard in passing that they had a book in the Fisher Rare Book Library but I did not know more than that. I reached out to Phillip for more details and…
