Description
Created by Mia Mulvey, a sculptor and professor of Studio Art at the University of Denver, "CBR26: Sequoia" is a 3D printed replica sculpture of a cross section of the deceased Giant Sequoia tree, CBR26. According to her website, Mulvey's work focuses on addressing "the recording of time, climate change and our relationship to remote landscapes."
Before its death, CBR26 was rooted, like many others of its kind, in Sierra Nevada, California. Very little information on CBR26 has been made public, but it was estimated to be 3266 years old upon demise. Its death has been attributed to both human intervention and to the many wildfires that have ravaged California in recent centuries.
Between 2020 and 2021, Californian wildfires, attributed in part to climate change, were responsible for the deaths of 13-19% of the world's giant sequoias.
