Description
First edition of Halfbreed (1973), an autobiographical account of Maria Campbell's life as a Métis woman in Canada. The text documents her experiences dealing with poverty, discrimination, and colonial violence. Passages describing her sexual assault by an RCMP officer were removed before publication by the publisher to avoid the risk of the RCMP issuing an injunction to prevent the book from being released. These passages were later restored in a 2019 edition.
