Description
History of Creation - "This model pole was likely originally purchased as a souvenir item. This design in particular was reproduced many times over and sold by W.L. Webber through his "souvenir and curio" shop called The Scenery Shop. The design is based on house posts that were carved by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Charlie James in the early 1900s and subsequently displayed in Stanley Park. Replicas of the house posts are still on view in Stanley Park today. Though the original design is by Charlie James, it is surmised that Webber commissioned other artists to reproduce the model poles" (Museum of Vancouver).
