Description

History of Creation - "The Chief Skedans Mortuary pole (seen on the right) was originally carved around 1870-1878 for the Raven Chief of Skedans in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. It was purchased in 1936 and moved to Vancouver for the Golden Jubilee. The original pole was returned to Haida over 20 years later and a replica of the pole was carved by Bill Reid and his assistant Werner True in 1964. Don Yeomans re-carved the moon crest at the top of the pole in 1998. The replica remains standing in Stanley Park to this day" (Museum of Vancouver).
