Description
It is a two-page typed affidavit from Dr. Robert O. Wilson, an American surgeon at Nanjing University Hospital. This document describes the medical and humanitarian emergency that occurred immediately after the Japanese occupation of Nanking. It details the influx of injured civilian patients including young girls who resisted rape and the torture and mutilation techniques observed, and the relentless presence of Japanese soldiers in hospital wards and refugee camps. This report was presented as evidence to the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (IMTFE) and was not widely circulated in postwar Japan due to political sensitivity.
